When did you know you wanted to do hair?
When I was about 8. My dad's friend married a stylist and she used to experiment on me and my 3 sisters. She let me assist her from a very young age, and I ran with it! I got my license the first chance I had, and have been behind the chair for 18 years now.
How would you describe your approach to doing hair color?
I listen carefully to what the client describes and come up with a plan to make it happen! In the end, I want you to feel fabulous!
What inspires your creativity?
Mostly I'm inspired by the client's total look. The style and identity that they bring into the salon is what I play off of.
What advice would you give someone considering coloring their hair for the first time?
Stay conservative...if you're not sure about a color application you'll be comfortable with, start slowly. Maybe a face framing highlight, or a single process to match or enhance your natural color to start. Once you get the hang of it, we can get much more unique and exciting!
How do you customize a hair color service for each and every client?
Absolutely! Everyone has a different natural base color, so the formulation will vary for each client. Nobody wants to run into someone in the grocery store with exactly the same color!
What celebrity always has great hair?
I just love Jennifer Anniston's color, it's so natural and always looks great. I like more exciting looks too, like Gwen Stefani's and Christina Aguilera's blonde, or Marcia Cross's red.
What's your approach to returning haircolor clients?
Well, some clients like to find and maintain a color that works for them. Whether it matches their natural or just looks natural, we keep it up. But for the most part, I like to change things up a bit. Sometimes additions as simple as red tones in the fall or a few highlights in the spring makes the world of difference.
